What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are small, durable shells placed on the fronts of teeth. Made of dental-grade porcelain, they can hide nearly any smile flaw – stains, cracks, chips, etc. Onlookers only see the shells; the flawed teeth stay covered up.

Of course, veneers do more than just “hide” ugliness. Since they’re made of quality porcelain, dentists tailor them to match a tooth’s shape, size, and color. That means any given veneer will look lifelike and “blend in” with its surroundings. Better yet, it’ll last a long time due to its inherent stain resistance and high durability.

The Process of Getting Veneers

Getting veneers isn’t that hard; it only involves two dental visits. The first session prepares your teeth for treatment, while the second places the actual shells.

Drs. Mihran and Armand follow several steps for the “prep” visit. Firstly, they remove some enamel from the affected teeth to make room for the veneers. The two then take impressions of the prepared areas, which are sent to a dental lab. Lab workers use the resulting models to craft your final veneers over several weeks. In the meantime, we’ll have you wear temporary shells.

You’ll return for the second visit when your final veneers are ready. At that time, we’ll place your shells and ensure they look beautiful and seamless. You’ll then be able to go out and enjoy your transformed grin.

The Benefits of Veneers

Due to their design, our practice’s veneers offer the following benefits:

  • High Versatility – Veneers cover the fronts of teeth, so they can fix cracks, chips, stains, and more.
  • Incredible Beauty – As they hide your smile’s flaws and blend seamlessly, veneers make your grin look truly gorgeous.
  • Stain-Resistance – Since veneers use quality porcelain, they have very high stain-resistance. They don’t easily discolor from food, drinks, and other debris.
  • Enduring Effects – The average veneer can work for 15 years, while a well-preserved one will last for 30 years or more.

Understanding the Cost of Veneers

While the shells may sound pricey, the cost of veneers varies by patient. The only way to get a precise estimate is to see our dentists for an in-person consultation. When you do, our team can assess you for key, price-affecting factors and outline some helpful payment options. (Such options may even include our in-house dental savings plan.) Veneer FAQs

Are Veneers Permanent?

Although veneers in Coral Springs aren’t technically permanent since they’ll need to be replaced eventually, they are considered irreversible. That’s because to ensure that they fit properly on your teeth, small amounts of enamel must be filed away, and removed enamel doesn’t grow back.

For this reason, teeth that have been prepared this way will always need to be protected by either veneers or dental crowns going forward.

What Happens to the Teeth Under Veneers?

The good news is that the veneers themselves won’t harm your teeth, and only a minimal amount of enamel must be removed to attach them. Furthermore, the bonding material used to attach them to your teeth is also completely safe.

Because the enamel will be completely covered by the veneer, the procedure won’t increase your risk of cavities, but you will still need to brush and floss regularly to prevent tooth decay from occurring underneath them. You should also limit your sugar consumption and be sure to visit your dentist regularly for your preventive exams and cleanings.

Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Veneers?

When you’re wearing temporary veneers in Coral Springs in the weeks before your permanent ones are created, it is important to avoid crunching on hard foods like ice, raw fruits and vegetables, and hard candies that could damage them.

Also, avoid foods that are too sticky, as these can pull the temporary veneers off your teeth. Be aware that temporary veneers also stain more easily, so be sure to avoid any darkly pigmented foods or beverages.

The good news is that you can enjoy most foods again once your permanent veneers are in place but be sure to avoid anything too hard or crunchy. If you are experiencing any sensitivity after placement, avoid any foods that are hot or cold until it subsides.

Finally, be sure to drink alcohol sparingly, as it can weaken the bonding material that holds your veneers in place.

Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?

It is not uncommon to have trouble pronouncing certain words when you first get veneers in Coral Springs, resulting in a temporary lisp. This is partially due to muscle memory. Because your tongue is not yet used to the presence of veneers when speaking, the tiny difference in thickness can sometimes affect the way it moves.

Lisps usually occur when attempting to pronounce the “s” and “v” sounds.

The good news is that your tongue will eventually adjust on its own. You can speed up this process by practicing the pronunciation of certain sounds or speaking aloud to yourself.

In some cases, your dentist may need to slightly reduce the thickness of your veneers in certain areas to make the lisp go away.
